Democratizing Tech Sales Training

We created a free, comprehensive tech sales training platform that challenges the predatory practices of expensive sales bootcamps.

Working directly with the founder and lead engineer, I designed an accessible learning experience that provides the same quality curriculum taught at top tech bootcamps - at no charge.

Problem Statement

The tech sales training industry exploits career changers, recent graduates, and job seekers by charging $5,000 to $25,000+ for bootcamps that promise access to lucrative SDR roles, creating financial barriers that prevent many qualified candidates from entering the field.

Key Challenges

Problem: Expensive sales bootcamps prey on people desperate for career change, charging exorbitant fees for training that should be accessible to everyone. This creates inequality in who can access tech sales careers, often excluding people from diverse backgrounds who could excel in the field but can't afford the upfront investment.

So what was happening?

  • Financial barriers preventing qualified candidates from accessing quality sales training
  • Predatory pricing that exploits career changers' desperation and urgency
  • There is a complete lack of accessible alternatives to expensive bootcamp programs
  • Corporate knowledge gatekeeping limits diversity and access to tech sales role

Design Opportunity

How might we create a comprehensive, accessible sales training platform that provides the same quality education as expensive bootcamps while removing financial barriers?

The Tech Sales Journey

User Centric Process

I worked directly with the founder (content expert and sales trainer) and lead engineer throughout the 12-week development cycle. This tight collaboration ensured design decisions supported both educational effectiveness and technical feasibility while maintaining the mission of accessible, high-quality training.

Key Contributions

I was responsible for shaping the platform's visual identity and creating an intuitive, accessible experience for users navigating the curriculum.

  • Designing the brand identity (logo, style guide, icons, and visual system)
  • Creating visual learning assets to support each section of the curriculum
  • Advocating for UX best practices across content and layout
  • Designing and structuring social media and core website experience

Collaborative Design

This was a highly collaborative effort across multiple stakeholders, each bringing essential expertise to ensure the platform met real user needs while maintaining technical feasibility.

The Core Team:

The Founder provided vision and core content based on 8+ years of sales experience

Engineering handled implementation and CMS integration for scalable management

Sales Development Managers served as subject matter experts and early user testers

Junior and Senior SDRs provided ongoing feedback and usability validation

I facilitated cross-functional work by translating business requirements and user feedback into design solutions, ensuring the platform's learning experience remained intuitive and accessible while supporting the founder's educational vision and the engineering team's technical constraints.

SDRing Collaboration Cycle

User First Approach

I began with discovery research to understand industry practices, synthesize curriculum requirements, and align stakeholders on platform goals. The design phase emphasized UX-optimized formatting, high-fidelity learning assets, and accessibility principles for inclusive access. I maintained continuous feedback loops through usability testing with SDRs, iterating based on insights and monitoring analytics to optimize the learning experience.

Content Evolution

I transformed rough sketches, spreadsheets, and text documents into production-ready, high-fidelity learning assets that enhanced curriculum comprehension. This involved interpreting the founder's initial concepts (often hand-drawn wireframes or bullet-pointed content) and developing them into polished infographics, process diagrams, and structured lesson layouts. Through systematic information design and visual hierarchy, I elevated raw data into cohesive learning experiences that maintained consistency across the platform.

Comprehensive Asset Development

Following this systematic design process, I created not only the LMS platform and site content from scratch, but also developed over 24 associated learning assets that supported the complete curriculum experience.

These assets included interactive worksheets, assessment templates, career planning guides, interview preparation materials, and visual frameworks that reinforced key concepts throughout the training. Each asset maintained visual consistency with the platform's design system while serving specific pedagogical purposes, ensuring learners had comprehensive resources to support their journey from career change through successfully being hired as an SDR.

SDR Career Paths

Finished Content

These assets spanned the entire SDR career journey from foundational sales methodology frameworks and email templates for beginners, to advanced quota planning spreadsheets and promotion readiness checklists for experienced reps. Key deliverables included prospecting workflow diagrams, objection handling scripts, tech tool overviews, and time management frameworks that provided tangible, immediately applicable tools learners could use in real sales environments.

Reflection & Impact

Designing SDRing demonstrated how thoughtful UX design can democratize access to career-changing opportunities. Collaborating directly with sales professionals ensured the platform delivered practical, immediately applicable value rather than theoretical knowledge. Seeing the curriculum successfully adopted by a high-growth company for employee onboarding validated that accessible design doesn't compromise quality, it enhances real-world utility.

  • 1,000+ learners reached, supporting diverse career transitions and skill development
  • Adopted as a core sales training guide at a high-growth martech company
  • Published and live as a free alternative for nontraditional job-seekers
  • Visual assets independently adopted in sales enablement and internal training programs
